Homelessness Week 2019

August 7, 2019

Homelessness is not the result of personal failings. The main causes of homelessness are poverty, unaffordable rents and family violence.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to our community event today in support of Homelessness Week. What a great morning shared with some really amazing and inspiring people.

We are grateful for the ongoing support from Julieanne Gilbert Member for Mackay and the Department of Housing and Public Works.

Connection to family, friends and community provides us with support and a sense of value and purpose. The Mackay community is awesome and there are so many great services that support the homeless through the provision of housing, emergency relief, free washing and showers and safe spaces for individuals to reach out.

Thank you MAD Cow Coffee Mackay for always supporting the Mackay community. As a HELP-A-MATE hub and supporter of "Shatter the Stigma' of mental health, they offer a safe space for anyone to come and have a chat. They also make AMAZING coffee!

Orange Sky Australia provide a valuable service by helping to positively connect people experiencing homelessness through free laundry, showers and conversation. They offer this service every Wednesday 0900-1100 out the front of the CASA office on the corner of Gregory and Alfred Street. For details on other local locations, please check out their website or FB page.

Horizon Clubhouse offers a non-therapeutic setting for adults with a history of mental health issues to give each other support.

Connect Housing Group are another great local organisation providing a range of appropriate, safe and affordable housing & support options to people who are marginalised.

If you are homeless or at risk of homelessness, please contact the team at CASA for further information and support
